Ana Gema Tolentino Karlsson is originally from Mexico and moved to Gothenburg, Sweden in 2008.
During her Industrial Design studies in Mexico she got inspired by Scandinavian design and its clean forms. Although, still her Mexican roots are always present in all her creation
Makime by Ana Tolentino design, develop and manufacture jewelry based on two main themes: Traditional Mexican gastronomy, made of silver, and the Swedish sustainability culture, made of silver and recycled materials such as bike tires. By processing the recycled materials the piece are given an unique feel.
Products inspired by her surroundings are something she has brought into the collections. Growing up in a big family in Mexico, the kitchen was the natural meeting point, so it seemed natural that the first collection was a concept based on typical Mexican ingredients and dishes such as chili, taco and sweet breads. The material is mainly silver but also leather and rubber is used.
